Cognos Installation Process

             Pre-requisites for Cognos 8 Configuration


1. I I S ( Internet Information Services )
2. Install SQL Server
3. Microsoft SQL Server Service Pack 4
4. Cognos 8 Server installation
5. Cognos 8 Modeler installation
6. Cognos Configuration



1.I I S ( Internet Information Services )


Insert “Microsoft Windows XP” cd à then it will display following screen à then here you select “Install Optional Windows components” à



Then you select “Internet Information Services (IIS)” check box à and then click on “Next” button.




Then click on “Next”.


 
Then click on “Finish”.



 
   2. DB       à        Microsoft SQL Server 2000

à       Double click on “autorun”
à       Click on “SQL Server 2000 Components”
à       Click on “Install Database Server”
à       Click on “Next”            à         Click on “Next”            à         Click on “Next”
à       Click on “Next”            à         Click on “Yes”
à       Enter your 25-digit CD-Key
à       Click on “Next”            à         Click on “Next”            à         Click on “Next”
à       Click on “Next”
à       In “Service Settings” à Select Radio button i.e.,  “Use the Local System account”
à       Click on “Next”
à       From “Choose the authentication mode” à Select Radio button i.e.,
                        “Mixed Mode ( Windows Authentication and SQL Server Authentication”
            In this you “Enter password” and “Confirm password” i.e., sa
à       Click on “Next”
à       Click on “Next”
à       Click on “Finish”

     3. Microsoft SQL Server Service Pack 4
à            From SQL2KSP4   à            Double click on “setup”

à            Click on “Next”     à            Click on “Yes”

à            Click on “Next”     à            Click on “Next”

à            Select the Check Box  “Upgrade Microsoft Search and apply SQL Server 2000 SP4 ( required )”

à            Click on “Continue”            à            Click on “OK”

à            Click on “Next”     à            Click on “OK”       à           Click on “Finish”
In Enterprise Manager à Create New Databases cm, gosl, gort  
In Enterprise Manager à Create New Databases à They are “cm”, “gosl”, “gort”
From “Start” menu à Select “All Programs” à Select “Microsoft SQL Server” à

Select “Enterprise Manager”à Expand “Microsoft SQL Servers”àRight Click on

“Databases” à Select “New Database…”

            à        Enter Name “cm”     à        Click on “OK”

            à        Like Create “gosl” and “gort”

            à        Close the “Enterprise Manager”
4. Cognos 8 Server installation :

To start the installation, double click the issetup.exe in the win32 directory
( means Open “Cognos” Software à Double click on “BI Server” à Double Click on “win32” à Double Click on “issetup” ).
Then “Cognos 8 Business Intelligence Modeling” window open à Click on “Next”
 



Accept the license agreement and click Next ( means Select “I accept” Radio Button à Click on “Next” )






Select a location for the install. By default, Cognos 8 will be installed in c:\program files\cognos\c8 à Click on “Next”




Expand the selection. Select Cognos Content Database if you need to install the Apache Derby content store. This is not checked by default, as it is only for stand-alone development or demo systems
 ( Select all “Cognos 8 Business Intelligence Server”  à Click on “Next”  )
A Program Folder will be created in the Windows Start menu. You can change the name from Cognos 8 if you have other versions of Cognos 8 co-existing on this same server
 
An installation summary page will appear. Click next to start the installation




The installer will copy over the files à Click on “Next” 


 
When the files have been copied over, this page will appear. Check ‘Start Cognos Configuration’ and click the Finish button to open Cognos Configuration




Cognos Configuration opens. Under the file menu, select save, or click the save icon, to accept the default settings


 
Cognos Configuration will verify the settings and write to several configuration files. Close the dialogue window when the save is complete. If a red X or an exclamation mark appears, click the Details button to see the error or warning message




Close this “Cogons Configuration” Window à Click on “No” 


5. Cognos 8 Modeler installation :

Similarly do Modeler Setup as follows
 
02 - BI Modeler             à         Win 32                         à         issetup

Then Open “Cognos” Software à Double click on “02 - BI Modeler à
Double Click on “win32” àDouble Click on “issetup”
à Then “Cognos 8 Business Intelligence Modeling” window open
à Click on “Next” à Select “I accept” Radio Button à
Click on “Next” à In “Installation Location” sub dialog window
à Click on “Yes” à Again Click on “Yes” à
lick on “Next” à Select all “Cognos 8 Business Intelligence Modeling
à Click on “Next” à Click on “Next” à
Click on “Next” à Select the “Start Configuration” Check box
à and Click on “Finish” à In New Window ( i.e., “Cogons Configuration” window )
à Click on “Save configuration” à Click on “Close”
à Click on “Start” à  Click on “Close” à
Close this “Cogons Configuration” Window à Click on “Yes”


Then Screens are coming as follows ( Observe the screens )














à Click on “Start” à  Click on “Close” à
Close this “Cogons Configuration” Window à Click on “Yes”




 
Close this “Cogons Configuration” Window à Click on “Yes”


6. Cognos Configuration :

Then go to following Location
C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL

Copy this path ( i.e.,“C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL” )
àAnd go to Enterprise Manager à Expand “Microsoft SQL Server”
àAnd Right Click on “gosl” à from “All Tasks”
àSelect “Restore database” àIn this “Restore database”
àSeleect “From device” Radio Button
àand Click on “Select Devices”
àFrom “Choose Restore Devices” Sud dialog window
àClick on  “Add” à And From “Choose Restore Destination” window
àSelect “Browse” Button à Select “GOSL”
( i.e., “C:\Program Files\cognos\c8\webcontent\samples\datasources\sqlserver\GOSL” )
àClick on “OK” à Again Click on “OK” à Select “Options” Tab
àHere Select  “Force restore over existing database” Check box
àHere replace path from “C:\MSSQL” to
     “C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL”
àClick on “OK” à Again Click “OK” à

Then Screens are coming as follows ( Observe the screens )

Copy this path ( i.e.,“C:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\MSSQL” )
àAnd go to Enterprise Manager à Expand “Microsoft SQL Server”
àAnd Right Click on “gosl” à from “All Tasks”
àSelect “Restore database”

 


 
In this “Restore database”
àSeleect “From device” Radio Button
àand Click on “Select Devices” 


 
àFrom “Choose Restore Devices” Sub dialog window
àClick on  “Add” 




And From “Choose Restore Destination” window
àSelect “Browse” Button 


 

Select “GOSL”
( i.e., “C:\Program Files\cognos\c8\webcontent\samples\datasources\sqlserver\GOSL” )
àClick on “OK”
